I got admitted to UVA, BC and SMU and I want to major in drama in whichever I chose to go to, and still majoring in business ir marketing. The problem is that I cannot make a decision. I have spoken with a million alumni and still cannot reach a decision so please if you can, help me!!!

This is what I learned from speaking to other students, university web pages, and visiting the schools:

SMU:
PROS: Amazing and prestigious drama department. You have to be admited to the department, in which only 12 are admitted. Got an artistic scholarship. Business school is excelent (top 25). The city of Dallas is at an amazingly short distance.

CONS: The students are known for being really rich and have reputation of being superficial and materialistic. It is not ranked as high as I would hope and its known for being easy to be admitted to. Not a lot of Latinos (I am from Panama)

UVA:
PROS: Amazing well rounded school. Ranked very high and known for being a school with students from all over the world. They have the top 2 business school of USA. Students are hard working but also very friendly. Drama department is really great (Tina Fey graduated from this program)

CONS: Drama department consists of about 100 drama majors and there is no selectivity (meaning that anyone who is admitteed to the arts and science program at UVA, could potentially be a drama major) The business school is extremely difficult to get in.

If you cant think of any other PROS and CONS please tell me or if you think that any of the "facts" I just stated about each school are incorrect please tell me. And if you want, tell me which you would like to attend. Thankyou!!!!

You forgot to mention BC. Amy Pohler went to BC.

You should find out if it is possible to double major in those two areas at each college and how hard it would be.

You also need to know which major is your primary and which is your backup.

If drama is your primary, and you want to be a professional actor, then concentrate on which drama department is best, and that means which drama department gives you the best connections to being a professional. Being a professional actor or even a technician is all about who you know, not what you know. Connections, connections, connections.

If drama is secondary, and you really want to do business, then UVa is your obvious choice.

If you’re trying to straddle the two, I’m out of ideas.

To clarify, SMU does not only let in 12 students for their theatre department – there are typically about 20 students in each class, which means there are about 40-50 admitted. Obviously, the program is still incredibly prestigious, but that is important. SMU also has Cox Business School, which is a great school, but it can be hard to juggle both majors, and the very different cultures, though it is possible. Think about which one is your priority, and what you plan to do when graduating. If you want to study business more than theatre, just go for that and go to UVA, especially because UVA probably has more extracurricular theatre options than SMU would have if you decided to focus more on business but wanted theatre in your life in some way.

Thankyou so much for your help really!!! But the thing is that im from Panama and I plan to live here so the connections are not really that important. Still, I really want to go to a place where drama is taken seriously. Ive checked the background of the drama profesors of each school and they seem to have gotten an amazing education and experience. I think the main difference between the two drama programs is the amount of attention I would get… but correct me if I am wrong!!!
