Question for Transfer applicants....

Are we expected to stick to one page for the questions about why you are leaving you current school and why you want to come to columbia. I ask this because I treated them as 2 seperate essays and have 2 full pages....

There was no limit stated in the application. My admissions officer said that these essays were the most important part of the applications (next to college transcript), so I assume you should get as much space as necessary to say what you need to say. I treated it as one essay, and I'm at 2 pages single space, ~1500 words. Because it's so important, they won't mind if you take up space, as long as you're not rambling and you actually NEED that space to answer the question. By the way, where are you trying to transfer from?

For the "Why are you transferring out" essay I stuck to 500 words. The other two (Why Columbia and Why Engineering), ~300 words.

Edit: I realize this post was from over a year ago but I think it's worthing bringing up the topic of essays.

Actually, I just rechecked my word count--I was at 350 for the "Why are you transferring out" essay. Those three essays were labelled Short Answer Essay Questions, so that's how I treated them. Anybody else do the same?
