Question Game!!!

That would be 1988...but there was another that should've been!

When did Notre Dame go co-ed?

1972

What is the name of the priest who is credited as being the founder of the University of Notre Dame?

Fr. Edward Sorin

To which order did he belong?

The Congregation of Holy Cross.

This is simple ND history but lets have fun and make it several questions.

Multiple choice time...
Early in Notre Dame's existence (in 1879) it was nearly completely destroyed. Which of the following caused the destruction?
A. Tornado
B. Flood
C. Fire
D. Alien Attacks

Before the destruction (almost gave away the first answer) the dome was...
A. gold, silly
B. copper
C. tin
D. there was no dome

One of the only buildings that remained standing was...
A. The main building
B. The Basilica
C. Fisher Hall
D. Hesburgh Library (now remember the date here)

1) C.
2) C.
3) B.

How tall is the Jesus's head in the "Word of Life" mural on the Hesburgh library?

You obviously are using the same source I was :)

Jesus must have had a big head since it is 9 feet tall!

Let's go to a different website to test your Google/ND knowledge. Name the Four Horsemen. Here is a picture... http://graphics.fansonly.com/schools/nd/images/pictures/horse.jpg

Hmm, Im not even going to pretend that I know their names off the top of my head. But here they are: Stuhldreher, Crowley, Miller and Layden.

How about this one for you Domers out there. What is the highest point on campus? What is the lowest publicly accesibly point on campus? Thought I'd ask some previously unasked questions.

Basilica of the Sacred Heart is the highest and im not sure about the loewst, but is it the football field?

ummmm, what are curently or planning on majoring in at ND?

Probably biochemistry with a minor in Chinese.

Hmm, how about: what is the French name of the University of Notre Dame and the "legend" associated with it?

Notre Dame in French, I believe, is Our Mother and the legend (I believe the one you are referring to) refers to the whole name of the university... the University of Notre Dame du Lac. The du Lac refers to the lake on campus...the problem is that there are two lakes on campus. Rumor has it that one of the lakes was so frozen over that winter that Fr. Sorin believed there to be only one lake, hence the name. What a surprise it must have been that next spring! Also, at least they didn't start building the university on the lake!

Easier question to encourage participation: what on earth is the grotto and what is it a replica of?

The Grotto is a 1/7 scale replica of the Grotto at Lourdes France where Our Lady appeared to a young French girl. Yup, the Grotto at Notre Dame is quite beautiful, I can only imagine what the real Grotto in Lourdes is like.

Question: How long does it take to walk from one side of campus to the other?

If you add the times on the walking map it says about 20 minutes, which I think is pretty accurate, but I am a slow walker (especially for being 6'4")

What is Rudy's first name (hint, it isn't Rudy)?

Daniel Ruettiger, or some kind of spelling of the last name. Who was the last Heisman winner for ND?

Tim Brown babyyy in 1987

What city was Dr. Pepper invented in. (hint: somewhere in texas)

Waco, TX

Who was the huge quarterback recruit that committed to Notre Dame before the spring game (I started a thread about it)?

Jimmy Clausen

What dorm does Brady Quinn live in? Or does he live in a dorm?

Guess no one wants it so I will take it. Brady lives in Dillon Hall (used to live in Zahm).

Who was the coach before Ty Willingham (be careful, it isn't Davie) and why was this coach fired? For extra credit you can say where he is coaching now, but that is optional.

It was O'Leary, lied on his resume.

Isn't he coaching somewhere in Florida now? Too lazy to look it up.

i remember now it is central florida

ok new question...this one might be hard so just google it if u need to

name one of the few teams that hold an all-time winning record against the irish football team

Michigan :(

I once found a full list and there were some fun entries but I couldn't find that again. Blue and Gold does show the series record for our opponents next year, however.

How did Rockne die?
