Question on Application Process

I have already finished my application and taken my SAT and ACT but would you recommend me to wait until I retake my SAT and ACT before sending in my application? I know that I will increase my current score in October when i retake my test. When they examine the application, do they check the scores that come in, in october before sending acceptance letter or after?

If you expect that your score in October will increase your overall, then send your application in very late in October, but definitely so that it is received by IU-B before November 1st.

The reason I say this is that the merit scholarships are larger for those who apply prior to November 1st--and the money difference is fairly significant.

P.S. You can also apply on-line at this location:

Online Application: Office of Admissions: Indiana University Bloomington

I think since your SAT scores are easily good enough to get into IU, that you should send them now and get through the process of getting accepted under your belt. My son applied in mid-October last year but did not get in until after Christmas because of the huge volume of applications and because they mistracked his HS transcript in their office.

You can send your October SAT scores later after you are accepted, if they improve (which they probably will), and the Admissions Office will send the updated scores to Kelley. You could even take the SAT in December and still be considered for a higher automatic scholarship or Kelley direct admit status. You have until February 1, 2009 for your updated scores to get to the admissions office to be added to consideration for admission/automatic scholarships/etc.

Also, I would call the admissions office a couple of weeks after each set of SAT scores is sent to IU to make sure they received them and correctly matched them up to your application file. Sometimes they notify people that their HS transcript and/or SAT scores are missing from their files, and sometimes they don't. If they don't tell you, you could be in for an agonizing wait. If you call them, however, they will tell you over the phone if everything has arrived, and it only takes a minute for them to do it.

Agree with bthomp1 - scholarship deadlines are Nov 1. Send in your application now and follow up with your October scores later. The admissions office lost my daughter's online French class transcript twice; we finally went in person at orientation to deliver a third copy - do not leave room for error.

I'm going to send in letters of recommendation, but should i write a personal statement? Both are optional. Did you guys do it before sending in your application?

My son did both and was accepted.

DD did neither and was accepted. When I asked admissions about the personal statement, they said her scores and GPA were high enough it wasn't necessary. My feeling is though it can't hurt you. I wouldn't let it delay the application though.

I have a 3.4 gpa / 18% rank and 31 ACT superscored

is that high enough?

ACT doesn't get superscored at IU Admission Standards: Office of Admissions: Indiana University Bloomington
