Brrrr! FL here. Just a fan!

My husband and I were wondering if my son passed the fitness test. His scores were

Mile Run 5.2
Pull ups 11
Shuttle Run 6.2
Push ups 65
Sit ups 65
Basketball throw 88ft

I took the CFA during the admissions process recently and learned that, although a candidate’s fitness is important, it makes up about 20% of the total process. I think that the goal of the CFA is to root out the out of shape candidates who fail each part of the fitness test. If your scores are low, the best thing to do is start working out (running AND lifting). Most candidates who don’t workout on a regular basis end up failing the CFA and are unable to improve scores. You can take the CFA as many times as you want as long as it’s before the due date. If you can max out one or two of the tests and score above average on the rest, you should be fine in terms of the CFA. Good luck with your Candidate Fitness Assessment and admissions process!

PRT (physical readiness test, the physical test Mids take once each semester) minimums are on the website. You can translate the run time for a 1 mile (equates to a 7min pace for men and a 8:26 for women). Shoot for the maximums on all the portions of the test. It’s a pass/no pass test, and as previously stated, you can take it again (and again etc).
For Klum’s records, our son (a 2011) maxed the CFA during his NASS visit in 2006, and, to date, is 6/6 on his PRTs (has a personal goal to obtain 8/8… I think there is now just a handful in his class that are still in that group). I do know that while the running portion is never an issue for him, he works for weeks before a PRT to get his sit ups and push ups not only in time, but perfected in form (gotta make 'em count…). Being fit at USNA is a must-do…
