If you go to the RU math website, and then go to course materials > 111 (pre-calc part 1), they should have a link where it should list the professors and the sections they are going to teach for next semester. The info is not up for the Spring right now, but it should be within a few weeks before the semester begins.

And I know what you mean about not taking it with the same professor. When I was taking Calc 1 in the fall, I didn’t know that they listed the professors names and their sections on the math website, and I ended up switching my original calc registration to another class with a professor I didn’t really like. Granted, my reason for failing the class wasn’t because of the professor alone, but at least now I’ll know which professor to go for when I re-take the class in the Spring.

Best of luck to you btw. I’m in the same boat and I know how it feels (what year are you btw?)

Ah that stinks. I wouldn’t want to take the same professor again either. I would do what GardenMaiden says. Check daily so you can start looking for the section you want as soon as you can.

I’ll admit I didn’t really try hard, didn’t go to tutoring often and such.

I don’t know if it sounds stupid, but do you it’s a bad idea to try Pre-Calc one semester with maybe a good prof? I just want to get this over with lol.

yanks I’m not sure what you mean, but I’m guessing that Precalc is offered as a 2 part course vs a one semester course? And you took Part I of the 2 semester course?

I think your idea is ok as you admit that you didn’t put in the work required the first time; it’s not like you tried your hardest and still failed.

**However, I’m not sure how that would work in terms of grade replacement. For ex, if you retake the exact course, your new grade replaces the F that you got the first time. If you take a different course, even though it is more advanced, I am not sure if that would replace the F in your GPA. I would speak to someone at Rutgers to find out. I guess the dean of your school, or the math department, would be a good place to start.

Another point is that if you attempt to register for a more advanced class, Webreg may not let you do it as you have a failing grade in a less advanced class. Your best bet is to speak to an advisor directly. It may be annoying, but it will get sorted out eventually and you will live to tell the tale. Everyone makes mistakes; you just have to keep moving forward.

No, it is not a dumb idea if you stay on top of the work and get help immediately when needed. In some classes, it is possible to catch up easily, even if you have missed some work. In math classes, if you miss a concept early on, it can haunt you for the rest of the semester: you will never catch up. So see your TA and get tutoring right away.

I would want some confirmation about that grade replacing your F. Get it in writing or ask for a website page reference. Do not just take someone’s word for it. I would start by emailing your advisor or whomever you would talk to about your grades.
