Question on fulfilling Med School Requirements

So I know some med schools require/recommend courses other than the general pre-reqs. Is it ok for someone to take these courses as a senior? This would mean the student is enrolled in the class AFTER sending their med school app. In the apps is there a place where you write out what other classes you plan on taking in order to fulfill the requirements or something like that?

Also, if your transcript is sent to med schools around the summer after junior year when most people apply, does that mean med schools don't see your GPA or grades during your senior year of UG? Or do they ask for a follow-up transcript?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

You can take the required/recommended course after you’ve applied. There is a place where can list courses you plan to take. But all required courses must be completed before you can be officially admitted to medical school. You demonstrate proof via certified final transcript. Until your final transcript is received, your admission is conditional.

Med schools admit you based on your junior year transcript and usually will not ask for an intermediary transcript, only a final one.

Your admission can be revoked if your grades fall dramatically or if you fail to complete ALL required pre reqs with satisfactory grades. (Or fail to graduate.)

so what you’re saying is if a med school requires I take biochem but I don’t take it until my senior year and I apply to the med school as a junior, it’s ok as long as I make it clear in the list that I plan to take biochem?

Yep. That’ll work.

Yes, exactly that.

yesssssssss that makes things so much easier. thanks for the replies!

Also, some Med. Schools might change their requirements AFTER you have applied. You have to be flexible to change your senior year schedule if they do. Has happened to my D. One of Med. Schools that she has applied added 2 more required classes. D. had to drop one of her minors (being short of 2 classes to complete it) and completely change her Fall semester schedule after she has already registered for Senior Fall classes. Got to do what you got to do. She got accepted at that Med. School with small Merit award, but ironically decided to go somewhere else. no hard feeling though, just being thankful for having choices. She starts in few days.
