Question on names/nicknames

A bit of background: In real life I have a long name (10+) that, although is from classical (hellenic) origins and is common in the USA, is spelled in a slightly differently because of my country of origin (even though I now live in the USA). Because of this I go by a shortened "nickname" that is also common in the USA but the spelling difference is reflected.

My problem: I go by the nickname everywhere, even in semi-official things. One of the things that I will mention in my application is how I am currently a elected official in my local government. In that postion though (like actually on my nameplate at my office) and all of the news articles that go with it my nickname is used. Also, the website I run and the internet identity which I have have specifically curated to look good also uses my nickname.

My question: Should I put this nickname on my application and if so where? Would it go in The Common App's preferred name?

Also let me squeeze in a sperate but related question. What email adress should I use? As part of my curated online identity I own <nicknamelastname.com>. I currently do not use any adresses from this domain as I still use my old email <name@ gmail="" .="" com="">. </name@></nicknamelastname.com>

Would it be appropriate to use the adress college@nicknamelastname.com? It would help me sort actual college emails and I think/hope that it would look good.

Ok I’m bumping this again, but only because 75% of the first page is locked topics.

Just notify them of your nickname on the Common App where it asks you if you have one. Also, I put mine on the additional information as well… just to make sure!

Don’t worry so much about it. My recommendations and certain papers were flip-flopping between names. They’ll know who you are and it won’t confuse them!
