Question on Transfer Matters

On the MIT website it states that transfer applicants for the fall semester are notified in early April of admissions decisions and must make the school aware of their final decision (if accepted I'm assuming) by May 1st. Now, if one were privileged enough to receive such an acceptance letter, but was still waiting on the results from another school that comes in mid-or early-May (one that the student might consider over attending MIT were one accepted), is there nothing one can do? In other words, would one's application to the other school be forfeit/rendered null upon accepting enrollment at MIT?

I understand that it is a very "iffy" question, but I am sure that such a dilemma must occur, and as such I am curious as to the answer.

Thanks

No, you could accept MIT’s offer by May 1, then withdraw if you are accepted by the other school. This happens every year for freshman applicants – some number of students admitted by MIT and committed to go are accepted off the waitlist at schools other than MIT, so they notify MIT that they will not be attending. It’s not a problem, and it’s not unethical in any way.

Ah, alright. It just seemed an interesting dilemma. Thank you for the information.
