The Fordham website says you receive this scholarship if (a) you're a NM semifinalist, and (b) you're in the top 10% of your class. How will they determine scholarship eligibility if your school doesn't rank? (Assume the HS gives out no ranking info... not even top quartile, decile, etc.)

I received the semifinalist scholarship for the fall. I emailed one of the counselors at Fordham and they told me that the top 10% requirement was only used as a benchmark not as an actual requirement. I assume that they’ll also look at your GPA in relation to your strength of schedule and test scores to make their decision.

Thank you. My son’s test scores are very good, but I’m virtually certain he would be out of the top 10% if the school were to publish a ranking. He wants that scholarship badly.

Well, I got the Semifinalist Scholarship with very good scores but only a 3.6 GPA. Granted, I was still in the top 10%, but as laxking said, that’s not precisely what they’re looking for.

As long as your son is a competitive applicant to Fordham, he should get the scholarship. Good luck.

also showing interest definitely helps. I was in the top 12% or so and I emailed a couple people inquiring about it and all their emails were positive, visiting wouldnt hurt either
