question regarding interviews

I was wondering if interviews are given to all applicants and if I haven't received notification for one yet that essentially throws me out of the competition. I sent in my application in September, live in a relatively populated area, and I've already had an interview with Yale. I was just concerned that maybe Penn just doesn't give interviews to everybody or to only those they are even considering.

penn doesn’t give interviews to everyone. it just depends on how many alums live relatively close to you. i submited my app around oct. 25 and my interviewer emailed me two days later. it has nothing to do with the status of your application, i doubt they even looked at any of my documents. but my interviewer lived in the same city as me so it was quick. don’t worry if you don’t get an interview, its not mandatory so it won’t affect your decision

People ask this question way too many times…

Penn does not offer interviews to everyone, they offer them based on availability of alumni who live relatively close to you. They also do not offer interviews based on how interested they are in accepting you, it is almost randomly selected. Someone who has no chance of getting into Penn could get an interview over someone who seems highly qualified.

I live IN Philadelphia (not the suburbs that consider themselves part of Philadelphia), right where Penn is and where tons of alums are, and around 10-15 people in my class applied ED to Penn. Only about a quarter of us received an interview, and some of the people who got one are definitely not as academically qualified as some of the others who applied and didn’t get an interview.
