Okay, I'm nowhere near applying for college (sophomore) but I was just curious - if you're applying to several schools, do you need to get teachers to write recommendations for each one, or can you just send copies? If the latter is the case, how do you go about getting copies when you're not supposed to look at them?

It depends on the school. Some need letters, but some need forms filled out. And with the copies I needed made, I just asked the teacher to make the copy before hand (I had a nice list of everything to be done)

Should we waive our right to read the recs later?

Yes, it's generally expected that the student will waive their right to read the letter. It lends more credibility to the letter. Also, if you refuse to waive that right, the writer of the letter might feel offended that you don't trust them to write a good letter. Some teachers might show you the letter anyway, which is okay.

Usually, your teacher will make the copies of the recommendations for you.
