I was wondering how the decision is made on making a new forum for a particular school such as Carnegie Mellon etc. Does there have to be alot of talk about that particular school to be one or do the administraters here decide?

Go to "Colleges for Musical Theater--Part 40" and read post 320 by College Mom. (If I were handier with html, I'd give you a link.) She's the Moderator of this forum, and she explains her thinking about the 30 she chose.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, DoctorJohn, as always, for trying to help. Welcome, Allyson.

Allyson, the separate forums for 30 Musical Theater programs is a newer "feature" on the MT Forum, which continues to grow over the years. We first weren't even our own Forum but just one very LONG thread, which is now in 40 "Parts". Then, we became our own Forum with threads on a variety of subtopics related to colleges for musical theater. We had threads that would pop up on various schools. We often had several threads on the same school. Eventually, we created Sub Forums for many MT schools and moved all the threads on those schools to their own fora.

We can't have too many sub fora and I was allowed to pick 30 schools. The way I picked had to do with how often certain schools are discussed, the more well known programs in the field, and the more selective programs in the field. However, OTHER programs can and are and hopefully will continue to be discussed on the MT forum. If you are interested in a MT program that is not on the list of 30 schools at the top, do a "search" of the MT Forum using the Search function and type in the name of the school you are interested in. Often, you will find a thread or some posts on it. If not, start a thread on the school.

If you go to the Big List of MT College programs: http://www.geocities.com/musicaltheatercolleges/biglist.html , you will find a very good list that includes most, but not all, programs, but particularly most BFA of BM programs that are out there in this field, including many that do not have their own sub-forum at the top of the MT Forum.

So, a school doesn't have to be talked about a lot to get its own thread but we have limited the actual SUB Forums to 30 schools. But, just like in the past, we welcome and encourage threads on other schools and all sorts of related topics. We hope that readers will first search to see if a thread already exists on that topic or school and then add onto it, rather than start a new thread.

If there is a particular program you are interested in and nothing has turned up on a search, or if you need more specific information, do ask here. The more specific your questions, the better. Start with a search, however, so we don't have multiple threads on the same school or topic.

Thanks DoctorJohn and CollegeMom!
