I was wondering whether any former west point cadets or current west point cadets attend USMA with a former HS friend or student that they knew back at home. How did it turn out? Did you still maintain your friendship while you were there, or did you become rivals?

It will be interesting to hear what cadets have to say.
I suspect that if there were 2 candidates from one school in a given year, that they would not be put in the same company. Although WP is a competitive environment, WP also relies on the theory of "cooperate and graduate" (working as a team and helping your buddies is very important).

I know four cadets that are here currently that I went to high school with. We maintain military courtesies but we still are friends, more so because we have many more bonds then just WP experiences.

My husband's high school classmate was also his USMA classmate and CGSC classmate. That is somewhat rare for a school in a liberal suburb of Boston.

We live in Northern VA where there are a lot of AD and retired military. Our local high school usually sends at least two to each federal service academy.

If son chooses WP he will be there w/ a friend from same HS. They will join a few other boys from their school who are already there. When the high school is graduating nearly 800 students a year, this is not surprising.

I and two others from my high school have appointments to west point. The three of us also played to together on the football team and are in many classes, i'd say more than just aquaintances. I hope we are able to remain fairly close at the academy

Our daughter (class of 2009) and a friend of hers (and her brother's) from the same high school (class of 2010) are at the academy together now. He actually graduated 3 years before her and did 2 tours of duty in Iraq with the Marines before being accepted to West Point in the class behind hers. She keeps in contact with him both at the academy and while at home on leave.

The guy I graduated with ended up quitting first semester of his yuk year.
