It seems like the Colby supplement is very intensive on how interested an applicant is with Colby (have you visited, etc. etc.). I have not done any of these things. In fact, the only time I have been in contact with Colby has been at a college fair for 5 minutes. So my question is....with tons of ECs, a 4.0, 2190 SAT, and valedictorian status, but with limited contact with the school, is Colby a safe bet for me? Or not so much because of the relatively poor supplement I will be forced to submit? Don't get me wrong, I am very interested in Colby, but my yes/no answers in the supplement fail to reflect the interest.

Colby is definitely a safe bet for you. My daughter’s GPA was similar to yours (3.92 weighted I think), I think she had a 2170 on the SAT, an ACT composite score of 33, she NEVER visited the campus, never interviewed, but she got in and is a happy Colby sophomore. For us the visit/interview issue was because we live in California, and Maine was far far away. She applied RD and was accepted. Honestly, I can’t remember if she even touched base at a college fair, and can’t remember if Colby came to her campus to visit–few from her high school ever even apply to Colby–most stay in California or apply to Ivy League schools, Stanford, schools in big cities (BU, NYU), etc… Go for it. If you are a good fit, there is no reason why the issues you have mentioned will be a serious problem. Having said that, if you live in Maine and never visited, they might wonder why.

I live in CT, so it’s a good 6 hours (ish) away and we just never had the chance. I was deferred from Yale today so I’m pretty much decided that I’ll be applying to Colby now. Thanks so much for the insight, much appreciated.
