Question.

Is there any way a new cadet can be found medically disqualified and kicked out of west point on R-day?

Yes. Many ways.

It happens every year.

many ways as in????? can you give some examples?

Just a few...

If there is a medical condition that you did not report
If there is a new condition since your DoDMERB exam that you did not report
Any drugs
Pregnancy (Could be urban legend, but I hear there are a couple of these each year)

Hihwatha,

Each cadet is given a number of medical exams on R-day to confirm the earlier DODMERB exam results and to detect medical conditions not disclosed or occurring subsequent to the DODMERB exam.

While the types of potential disqualifiers are many, some of the ones I've heard about include: illegal drugs detected in urine samples, disclosure of prescription drugs not previously declared, severe acne or other skin ailment, overweight, color blindness and recent debilitating injuries such as muscle sprains and unmended broken bones.

OK I have a question about the perscription. If we just got on a perscription like within the last week or two who do we contact? I mean do we need to call up to WP and tell them or just show up with it?

It would be a good idea to give them a heads-up. Nobody wants a surprise on R-Day.

OK I called up to WP and for anyone who cares you can just bring your perscription with you. He said to bring a copy of your written perscription and if it is not BC then to provide a reason why you are taking it.

easy, aspen! It's okay to be colorblind as long as USMA knows about it and you passed the vivid red-green test back when you were doing dodmerb stuff (like me)

FYI - prescription, not "per" scription. ;)

I saw it firsthand back in 2001. A Prepster was doing some weightlifting just two days before R-Day and hurt himself. He was recycled to the following year. You talk about a family that was down in the dumps! It was heartbreaking to see the anguish in their eyes.

That's why we recommend bubble wrap for cadet candidates.
