Questionable Posts on Forums

So I googled my name and I found my old profile on Gaia Online. When I clicked "my posts" there were some really profane posts and I fear colleges will use this against me during the admissions process if they find it. The thing is these posts were from like 5 years ago and I was very immature at the time. It's like the 6th hit on Google. All the other hits are perfectly fine and are mostly search results talking about awards and competitions I won and stuff... How much do you think this will screw me over? Thanks.

Huh, I can’t even find myself on google. There was a historical figure of another country with my name (and nickname…), so he’s all that comes up. If you were going to post vulgar things on a website, why use your real full name? Anyway, I doubt that admissions officers will be googling your name. Even if they did, I’m sure they’d stop somewhere in the first five links about how great you are.

But yes, it is possible that if an admissions officer happened to look you up on google, they could find that. Future employers, who are more likely to use google to look you up, will also be able to see that, if they happen to find it. That’s why you should be careful about what you post on the internet, and what you tie your name to.

Is this a serious question?

Yes I know I shouldn’t have put my full name back then. I was an absolute idiot back then. Also, is the fact that it’s five years ago make it less severe of a problem? I mean I was 12 years old when I did this. Can a company judge an employee on what they did when they were 12 years old…?

Is it clear that you were 12? Also, I was assuming that this wasn’t a unique occurrence, if you had posted profane comments with no regard for the fact that they were linked to your real full name.

Realistically, though, if it’s an isolated incident from five years ago, requires googling your name, and is six links down, it most likely will not even be discovered.

Yes it’s clear that I was 12. The posts were timestamped to be in 2005. And this is a unique occurrence actually. It’s the only forum that is linked to my name in fact.
