Questions about Binghamton

Hi, I have some questions about Binghamton:

I found out that Binghamton's med school acceptance rate is 63%, which while higher than the national avg, is lower than other schools I'm considering, and as someone who wants to be pre-med, this worries me. Is pre-med advising any good at binghamton? are classes just too large that not many students get to know professors and work in their labs, etc.? Also, are there any opportunities to volunteer at hospitals, etc.? the town of binghamton seemed kind of downtrodden...

About class sizes--are all science classes extremely large? I know intro classes are like 300 students; what about higher level science classes and lab sections? also, what about classes in other disciplines, like psychology, english, foreign languages?

In terms of social life--does greek life play a huge role? also while I'm not against partying, I don't want to go to a school where that's all anyone ever does to have fun--does the social life at binghamton only consist of excessive partying?

thanks in advance!

also forgot to add:

How supportive is binghamton of an interdisciplinary curriculum? while i want to be pre-med, I don’t necessarily want to major in a science, because i have other interests as well that i want to explore. would binghamton be supportive of this or think I’m insane? lol

I’d like to know the answers to some of these questions too!

I can’t really help with this, I’m not a pre-med or science major. All intro classes are large but this will be at any school you go to. You have to make the effort to get to know the profs, regardless of discipline. They will not reach out to you unless you get to know them first.

The higher you go, the smaller (generally) the classes will be. Some classes will always be lecture, although it can be a small lecture. Others are seminar style (which I happen to like). All departments have a wide variety. Although you’ll prob find more discussion type classes in the humanities or social sciences.

No, Greek Life is less significant than other schools. Yes its there but you do not HAVE to do it to have a life. Many people party, but certainly not all. There is Late Nite Binghamton for the non-partying set or you can make your own fun. You decide.

They are very supportive. There is even a “make your own major” type program for those who want interdisciplinary but don’t fit the existing ones like PPL or PIC or Medieval Studies (etc. I am a PPL so I like this part of Bing).
