Questions about clubs and sports, and also community service

Hi.

I was new to the area, having moved here the august before 9th grade. I am now in 10th grade.

I didn't have friends and I didn't know what I was doing. 9th grade, I took no clubs. I joined the track team and that was all, I didn't make the basketball team because I couldn't work with the players since I didn't know them.

I am now in 10th grade, and not in any clubs again. But now that I am more at terms with this school and area, I want to join some.

If I joined a club now, in November, would it be 'honorable' to place that as 'having attended a club as a 10th grader' if I stayed in that club until the end of the year?

Also, I did a LOT of community service work as a 7th and 8th grader. I realize these are things not ni high school, but I did do a lot of work that I value myself.

I did work in a hospital, 2 hours on saturdays and sundays. I would help (elderly) people and listen to their stories as they sat in hospital beds, they often were REALLY interesting and I loved going. since I moved I couldn't go anymore, I'm going to try to do it at the hospital in this area.

Also, I did a community service trip, that was a long time ago, 8th grade, in India. It was 2 weeks and we helped rebuild a small school.

Both these things are things my high school has NO knowledge of.

Would it be possible, and if so, honorable in terms of a listing sense in my transcript, to mention these?

thank you very much I'm just a stressing student in need of help

You’re in tenth grade. Live a little, and you can write that on your applications when you need them. In two years.

On a college application, you can highlight anything about yourself that you feel is important and represents you academically and personally. If these community service experiences were valuable to you, I would list them, but I would also continue to pursue other opportunities to volunteer, and list those as well, to help you enhance your focus on community service.

If you join that club in November, and are an active member throughout the year, you can absolutely list it. I played baseball in high school, which started towards the end of winter and continued on through the spring. So even if I didn’t play in the fall because it wasn’t offered, I still didn’t play in the fall…do you see my point? Colleges just want to see that you’re active within your areas of interest.

Virtually the only colleges that factor community service and clubs into admission are the tippy top colleges – places like Harvard and Amherst. At most, the other colleges use such things for merit aid consideration.

To enrich your life, get involved in activities that interest you, and stop stressing about college.

thanks guys I’ll keep all your feedback in mind!! :)
