Questions about Core

hi everyone

I just took a tour of UChicago and loved it! It is my favorite school by far. However I have few questions about Core. What are the core requirements? How can you tailor the core requirements to your specific studies?

And as side note, does someone know the history first sustained nuclear reaction at the school?

Thank you. I really love the school and any information about it would be very helpful!

Here’s the core:

I think the answer to your question about tailoring it, to some extent this is possible.

As far as the history of the first sustained nuclear reaction, there are mountains of articles and books which have dealt with this. Basically, it was achieved by UChicago scientists in 1942 under the viewing stands of old Stagg Field which is gone now but which is marked by a sculpture between Mansueto Library and the Max Palevsky dorm. Here’s an article from the UChicago web site which includes a nice picture of the sculpture.

It’s a pretty important piece of world history.

@kaukauna Thank you so much! I will definitely read more in to the nuclear reaction so well as the core system with the links you attached. Your response was extremely helpful, thank you!
