ED is binding. The only way out is if you prove you cannot afford it. If you’re not 100% sure it it your first choice, then don’t apply ED, apply regular decision.
In general, the only valid reason to decline a ED admission offer is if the financial aid award does not make the option a feasible one. There may be some colleges that have an exception for application to international colleges, but if there are, they are few and far between. After all, if colleges start making exceptions, what’s the point of having a binding program? Some colleges that offer Restrictive Early Action for allow for applications to international universities.
Agree with the above. Before you consider ED take the time to read and understand the contract that must be signed by you, your parents, and your guidance counselor. Only apply ED: if 1) a school is your absolute positive top choice and 2) you have no need to compare financial offers.
