Questions about Interlochen

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, I wasn’t really sure where else to do it.

I’ve been doing a lot of research on Interlochen’s boarding school, and it looks amazing. I’m specifically interested in their creative writing and songwriting/guitar courses, as they seem serious and anything one could hope for in a class geared towards those subjects.

I just have a couple questions for anyone who’s either going or has gone. The major one is, how much financial aid do they provide you? When I showed the cost to my parents, they were understandably shocked, and I think that without financial aid, I probably won’t even bother applying.

Also, would I be the only senior applying? I’ve read on another forum that Interlochen gets a lot of new seniors, but it was posted a few years ago, so I don’t know if that’s changed at all.

Moreover, is it worth it to transfer in my senior year? I’ve never been entirely comfortable at my current high school, even though I’ve made good friends here, since it just has a certain vibe to it that I can’t relate to. Also, our music and writing programs are kind of weak, so I mostly just do those things on my own. I really want to get involved in a school-ish way without feeling like my contributions are going nowhere, and Interlochen seems like a good fit; I just want to make sure that I won’t be making a rash decision by applying for my last year.

Any advice is appreciated

The best information will likely come from someone in their Admissions office. Do not be afraid to pick up the phone and call them and begin a dialogue. You will likely find it very helpful! Best of luck!

Good idea - thanks so much!

I know a student who graduated last year. There are TONS of new seniors. She was only there for junior and senior year and I think her family’s cost was around 12k after FA.

But call the school. They are very nice and it’s not too late to apply. The student I know was accepted a week before classes began.

My graduated from IAA in 2014 (voice). They have an amazing creative writing department. They are generous with FA if you qualify.

Yes, there are plenty of first year seniors! Most of the seniors I know from last year got college scholarships that more than covered the price of IAA.
Feel free to PM me.

call them!
