I recently got accepted to Lewis and Clark and I have a few questions since I'm not from the area nor have I ever visited

Can anyone speak to L & C's Gender Studies program? This is my intended major and I want to know if the classes are interesting/the professors are capable/any information about the course really.

Is it's reputation of being a stoner school well deserved?

Is it true that the sense of community is lost after freshman year due to the amount of students studying abroad?

And lastly, any information someone can give me about the social life/academics/anything would be very appreciated. Thank you!

I can speak to three of your questions but you might also want to post in the LC Forum available under L on the College page.
Have no idea
No. I think you’re mixing LC up with Reed. Portland is a very free city and things will be available, but my D didn’t see anything different from what I would expect at most colleges.
I don’t think so. My D had friends who graduated in different years and did a semester abroad. She keeps in close contact with them to this day.
Lots of things to do, both on campus and downtown. On campus DD2 attended poetry slams, student open mike nights, all kinds of clubs, slack lining, one act play nights,… She also developed close relationships with her teachers because the school is small.

Same here. Can’t speak to the strength of your intended major but my S is in finals right now, finishing up his first semester. He’s really enjoyed it. Seems like the drug situation is no different than what you see at other colleges. In his limited time there he’s made a lot of friends and seems to enjoy a strong sense of community. His professors have been excellent, classes challenging (although this obviously varies among different majors) and he has been involved in a wide range of activities. He’s also enjoyed seeing a number of outside speakers that have visited the college and has really enjoyed Portland when time permits.

I do know a biology major in my D’s class went directly into a PhD program. She was in the running for top graduate for the school (Raite award).
