Questions about living-learning communities

I’m an incoming freshman going into COM as a film and television major. My housing application asked me about living-learning and specialty communities, and the more I look into it, the more confused I am.

  • Are they worth it? Does it significantly change your experience?
  • If a prospective roommate is in a different college, will applying for living-learning or specialty kick them out? Can I only room with people in that community, and when will I know that I'm part of it to make roommate decisions?
  • Is the Writers' Corridor open to screenwriters or playwrights? Or only creative writing and poetry?

@reasonablesleepr I don’t think it really changes your experience, I personally didn’t want to live on a floor with only people in my major, I wanted to branch out and meet other people. You will meet people no matter what. I don’t think there is any real advantage to them besides possibly having people on your floor who can help with homework. I am not sure how rooming with someone who is in a different college on a speciality floor works, I would honestly avoid it.
