Questions about NYU Stern

Hi I am currently a college freshman completing my spring semester. I am attending a Div II school that is about 8,000 students(East Stroudsburg University of Penn) so i was wondering if anyone knew whether i was up to par for admission to NYU’s Stern school of business.

I applied to smaller schools because my grades were not really all that hot in high school i would say around 2.0-ish maybe worse I did ok in my SAT’s 600 in critical reading 590 in writing but math really brought me down i got a 440.

I was a two sport athlete for 3 years i got a varsity letter in Track and football

I also did mock trial.

In college where i always knew i would do better than in high school i had a 3.0 last semester and this semester i currently am at 3.9 .

I also have a part time job and i was active in Students In Free Enterprise(SIFE)

I also have an Essay that i would like some help with please. I initially thought that it was good but I am having second thoughts

Now also how heavily does NYU weigh alumni relation?(My father went there)
And also does ethnicity also factor into the decision

On a side note math is somewhat of a handicap for me. Does anyone know if that will hold me back at stern? The major I am interested in is International Business. I also have to other schools in mind

Fordham and Temple

I think i could potentially make it into Fordham and Temple would not be as difficult

If math is a weak point for you or something you really dislike, Stern may be difficult. Then again, a major in International Business from any school could be difficult if you hate math. Most programs will require Calculus, Stats, Accounting, Macro and Micro Econ, etc. And a more competitive school like Stern might have even tougher requirements, I'm not sure. Just make sure you're willing to do a lot of studying on a subject you don't like. Best of luck, though. Let us know how it turns out!

what math classes have you taken so far/plan to take?

do you mean college math classes well i haven't taken any yet because i was not required to

but i have take macro econ i had an A, I am in the process of taken micro and business law i have A's in both of the atm. I also took accounting. My TA advised me to take statistics but I was wait listed to no avail.

On a side note does NYU factor an upward trend in your grades. Because in all honesty i messed around in HS but all my teachers would complain that if i just did the work that i would be fine. I had this problem with homework in HS.

My first week college and it was like everything clicked, and at the same time i realized that the college I attend right now will not adequately set me up for the future so I really feel that NYU could be the right place for me.

Another thing i didn't mention above i speak like four different languages including English.

My dad went to NYU as an International Student on a full scholarship. He is a prof at the school that i am going to he teaches Economics(I didnt take his class btw)

Honestly, I have to say your high school grades and your SAT scores will keep you from getting into Stern despite the fact that your father attended NYU. I mean I would apply because I think you really want to go there, but I wouldn't count on going there. I would keep up the GPA, take some math and get As to show you're not deficient on Math. If you can't handle math, Stern might not be for you.

I do not think you will get in. Stern is very very hard to get into. Math is huge there. Apply anyway but apply to a safety

well i was thinking about CAS or Stern i might just end up applying to CAS but my fall back school for international business is Temple they have a pretty good program.

I was thinking of majoring in IB then go to law school because i really want to be a lawyer but i thought it would be interested to also have a business background.

Also i got an excellent recommendation from my professor who is from New York and is a lawyer with a business degree and im planning on going all out with my essay

would somebody mind going over my first draft of my essay I think i have some pretty good ideas.
