I loved my first year at Pepperdine. Campus life is pretty much what you make it to be. If you're looking for the religious aspect, you can easily find it. If you want to party, you can find people to do that with (but you'll probably have to party off campus). People on the whole were pretty friendly. Being a Christian school, the overal atmosphere is more religious/conservative than you would find at some other schools, but there are definitely people of all beliefs/lifestyles.

The GEs include 3 religion classes that everyone must take. A few times in non-religious classes I had a professor who would briefly talk about how religion could connect. Everyone is also required to go to Convocation once a week. Most people go on Wednesday mornings in the Fieldhouse (usually there's a speaker, a couple times there was someone who sang and performed), but there are lots of other ones you could go to instead. Nearly all have some religious message, but not all (some will be about helping a specific cause, or sometimes they'll show a movie you can watch - I got Convo Credit once for watching The Lion King).

Pepperdine's a dry campus, so if you want to drink you have to go off campus.

I went to the beach around 6 times throughout the year, and only once during the day (and that was with a group to film for a Spanish project). Not everyone goes to the beach, but there are lots of people who take advantage of it being so close. My friends and I liked to take lots of blankets and junk food and have picnics on the beach at night (course, it was freezing, but it was fun).

There's really not much to do in Malibu itself. Quite a few students go to the Malibu Inn, they have bands perform there and stuff. The movie theater reopened this past year, but it's only got 2 screens. Most of the times when I went off campus with friends it was to Malibu Yo, a frozen yogurt place. Ralphs and Jack in the Box are the only places open 24 hours, and most other places close after 10.

There are no coed dorms. Freshman dorms consist of 6 suites, with 4 rooms in the suite (all doubles), and each dorm is all guys or all girls. Each suite has a small common area (table and chairs, small couch), and a bathroom (2 toilets, 2 sinks, 2 showers). There are cleaning people who come through every day to clean all the common areas and the bathrooms. The main lobby of each dorm has a tv and a fireplace.

I rarely went in during office hours to see my professors, but I always recieved quick responses when I sent e-mails. My biggest classes were around 300 students, those were my GE lecture classes in Elkins Auditorium (I had 3 lecture classes this past year). All my other classes were around 30 students or less, and there were only 9 of us in my Intro to Creative Writing class.

I found it pretty easy to make friends with people, both with the girls in my dorm, and with other students in my classes. I would definitely recommend Pepperdine, I have no regrets at all.
