I loved my first year at Pepperdine. Campus life is pretty much what you make it to be. If you're looking for the religious aspect, you can easily find it. If you want to party, you can find people to do that with (but you'll probably have to party off campus). People on the whole were pretty friendly. Being a Christian school, the overal atmosphere is more religious/conservative than you would find at some other schools, but there are definitely people of all beliefs/lifestyles.

The GEs include 3 religion classes that everyone must take. A few times in non-religious classes I had a professor who would briefly talk about how religion could connect. Everyone is also required to go to Convocation once a week. Most people go on Wednesday mornings in the Fieldhouse (usually there's a speaker, a couple times there was someone who sang and performed), but there are lots of other ones you could go to instead. Nearly all have some religious message, but not all (some will be about helping a specific cause, or sometimes they'll show a movie you can watch - I got Convo Credit once for watching The Lion King).

Pepperdine's a dry campus, so if you want to drink you have to go off campus.

I went to the beach around 6 times throughout the year, and only once during the day (and that was with a group to film for a Spanish project). Not everyone goes to the beach, but there are lots of people who take advantage of it being so close. My friends and I liked to take lots of blankets and junk food and have picnics on the beach at night (course, it was freezing, but it was fun).

There's really not much to do in Malibu itself. Quite a few students go to the Malibu Inn, they have bands perform there and stuff. The movie theater reopened this past year, but it's only got 2 screens. Most of the times when I went off campus with friends it was to Malibu Yo, a frozen yogurt place. Ralphs and Jack in the Box are the only places open 24 hours, and most other places close after 10.

There are no coed dorms. Freshman dorms consist of 6 suites, with 4 rooms in the suite (all doubles), and each dorm is all guys or all girls. Each suite has a small common area (table and chairs, small couch), and a bathroom (2 toilets, 2 sinks, 2 showers). There are cleaning people who come through every day to clean all the common areas and the bathrooms. The main lobby of each dorm has a tv and a fireplace.

I rarely went in during office hours to see my professors, but I always recieved quick responses when I sent e-mails. My biggest classes were around 300 students, those were my GE lecture classes in Elkins Auditorium (I had 3 lecture classes this past year). All my other classes were around 30 students or less, and there were only 9 of us in my Intro to Creative Writing class.

I found it pretty easy to make friends with people, both with the girls in my dorm, and with other students in my classes. I would definitely recommend Pepperdine, I have no regrets at all.

thankyou so much :) your info helped a lot .

Pepperdine's a religiously affiliated school. how does this reflect on the curriculum or social life?

many oppoetunities to help those in need. make life-long friendships.

Pepperdine is known to have a beautiful campus .. what's it like living near malibu beach? do students often go off campus to visit the beach and surrounding community?

to this very day (I am a senior) I am amazed at the beauty within this place. have no regrets. reccomend a car. beach is a 5 min drive or 20 min walk. simple beautiful.

What are coed dorms like .. are the dorms clean? good lifestyle?

one of the best in the nation. u must see them. lots of BBQ grills for you, amazing lifestyle.

are the teachers available for students to talk to? what's your biggest class size and smallest class size?

YES! they actually get sad somtimes when people don't visit them. You will be invited to at least 3 teachers' houses, as well as the Presidents house. I have bible study with the president and other students every sunday at his house. This should give you an idea.

is it easy to make friends with the people at pepperdine? would you recommend people to attend this school?

I think so. eaiser when fall semester starts because begining of school. Just get involved and you should be fine.

Nicely done!

I am a Freshman in High School and I know you all will be saying that I need to enjoy High School and that it is farcical I am worried about college now but I can’t help but look at Pepperdine and feel pretty stoked if in three years I were to receive a letter of acceptance from there.

Here is my resume:

Advanced Algebra 1: A
IB Government: A
IB LA 9: A
IB Chem/Phys: B
IB Spanish: A
Business Management:A
GPA Unweighted: 3.83
GPA Weighted: 4.5

Extracurriculars:
Eagle Scout (amount of volunteer hours: 50)
High School Tennis Team
High School Baseball Team
Model UN

Leadership:
Student Senate (projected volunteer hours: 15)

Religious affiliation:
Catholic

I know that I am an “innocent Freshman” and that this year is often the easiest and that it gets a ton harder, but if Pepperdine only accepted Freshman in High School how would I compare? In the next four years, what needs to happen? I won’t be taking Calculus by Senior Year so that will probably hurt me. Any tips?

You’re ahead of where I was as a freshman and I got in, so I think you’re on the right track. Stay involved in those extracurriculars (Scouting, MUN, senate) as Pepperdine definitely values those. Not all students have taken calculus before; in my Business Calc class only a few have seen most of the material before. Do very well on your SATs/ACT, and don’t hesitate to get a tutor if the scores aren’t where they need to be. Try and get some real work experience, I had that on my application and I think that helped me. Good luck!
