Hi everyone:
I just submitted my application to Reed. I like it a lot but I know in a few months time I’m going to have to choose a college once I receive my decisions. I have a few questions that I have for all of my colleges, but I want to dedicate this thread to answering questions about Reed. So here they are:
What is Reed’s social scene like? What do people do on the weekends?
What is the dating scene like?
How open to unconventional opinions are people at Reed?
What are the professors like? Have any of you developed solid relationships with them?
I’m interested in economics and philosophy. What are the economics courses at Reed like? Are they as intellectual as humanities courses? Do the economics courses allow you to explore policy just as much as theory? Do a lot of students end up majoring in philosophy?
What are the dorms like? Nice? Gross? So so?
How helpful are the professors when you are struggling with a paper or problem set?
How aggressive are the Reedees Against Racism (RAR?) I’m a black kid who disagrees with their methods and some of their opinions. Would I experience ostracization for my apposing views?
I want to do summer internships while I’m in college. How helpful would you say Reed is with things like that?
Is HUM110 the only gen ed requirement at Reed?
If there are any disabled applicants out there that have attended Reed, how cooperative are their disability support services with accommodations? How cooperative are professors with accommodations? I’m visually impaired which is why I ask.
And finally, what are your favorite and least favorite things about Reed? What made you choose Reed?
Thanks, and I look forward to reading your comments.
