Can anyone tell me which sororities at F&M are considered the harder ones to pledge? Or what the various reputations of the sororities are? Is the Greek scene at F&M big? Thanks so much!

There are only 3 sororities at F&M–Chi Omega, Alpha Phi, and Kappa Delta (though I believe people in the process of choosing a 4th one to bring to campus for next year). Each one has really wonderful girls who are quite involved on campus, within the sorority, and are active in the social life. It’s hard to stereotype the groups because there are 100+ girls in each one so you will get many diverse personalities and experiences. However, this is what I have heard from different people on campus…

Chi O: most intense pledging process of the 3 (i think the reason they can has a lot to do with how long they’ve been on campus and how well-liked they are by the administration) They’re kind of the typical popular girl in high school; parties a lot, attractive, pay a lot of attention to boys but they’re also a very close group and have a lot of fun together. They’re the oldest sorority at F&M I believe, so they have a lot of great traditions that F&M women have been doing for decades.
APhi: Is much newer on campus. They’ve been very successful building their reputation across campus, and won best Greek organization last year. People have described it as a middle-of-the-road sorority. The girls are known to be very sweet and friendly, they party and are very close, to the point where you very consistently see groups of best friends being entirely APhi. I’d consider them the kind of girls who were cool in high school and were friends with everyone but weren’t in that popular clique.
KD: KD didn’t used to have a phenomenal rep but they’re really improving every single year. The pledge class this year is a great group of girls and I think they’ll be able to change around the past reputation. The KD girls are a rather random assortment of girls though. About 2/3 are the kinds of girls who are awesome and should have been cool in high school but weren’t really, and the other 3rd are girls who were considered rather weird. The girls in KD seem truly happy to be in it and many groups within the sorority seem very close and are very cool girls.

The Greek scene isn’t huge but it’s a great thing to be involved in to expand your social circle and have wonderful experiences that you couldn’t have gotten otherwise. All 3 sororities are fantastic, which was shown this semester when each sorority got 42 new members. You’ll be in for a lot of fun if you decide to rush and pledge, especially because things may be changing with the new sorority on campus
