Questions about south neighborhood dorms

My son has applied to Engineering CORE experience, but if he doesn't get in (I'm afraid he applied to late), how would you rank the other dorms in the neighborhood? Can you live in Case hall if you are not in James Madison college? He likes the suite style rooms, proximity to basketball and football, and engineering. He's been accepted to pre-engineering and Honors college. Just trying to rank housing. What would you choose after Wilson?

Hi rttmom,
I’m really glad to hear somebody talking about the CoRe program. I can only really answer a part of your question though, and in short your son will get in with no problem.

I applied in December thinking it was also going to be something competitive. I’m nowhere near the honors college, like your son. I have 3.9 GPA, and 22 ACT, and got accepted into the CoRe program a couple days later.

If your son has started to look for roommates with the facebook roomsync app, you will see that there are only about 400 people from the incoming freshman class looking for a roommate, and there are hardly any people in the CoRe program. I would say at most of 60 people. According to the website, there is room for 705 students in the program. That means there are around 600 spots open.

His credentials are already pretty good, and there isnt a lot of competition, so I think that he will get in just fine. The university as a whole is still accepting people.

I will tell you now though, that finding a roommate will be tough. The RoomSync app is terrible. So far, out of the thee people that I have tried to contact, I get an error from facebook, so Im getting scared that I might have to go in blind because their system doesn’t work.

Thanks, mtchex11! That was helpful. I’ll ask him about the app. I did not know about it, but he might.

Personally I think Case is better than Wilson, plus they just renovated the caf and it’s really nice. You can live on an honors floor there if in the honors college. Wonders is very similar to Wilson. Holden is across the street from Wilson and has the nicest Sparty’s (in my opinion). All of them are suite style. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Jessicalee92, this does help. Can you live in Case if you are not part of James Madison, but are part of the honors college?

Case has an awesome cafeteria!!! Its been renovated too.

You can live in Case without being in James Madison or Honors. You cannot, however, choose your dorm as a freshman.

Thanks! The Honors college asked him to rank his dorm preferences. Just wanted to know if Case was an option for him.
