Hi, I'm getting recommendations from my APUSH/world history teacher and my economics/international business teacher. Would this be okay? Because people said that I should get recs from teachers who teach different areas like arts/english & science/math. Is it bad if I don't do this?

I wouldn’t say it matters too much, it might depend on major. Do you know what you plan on majoring in?

I plan on majoring in economics, that’s why I wanted a rec from my econ teacher. But if i do that I would be getting a pair of recs that are both social sciences. Unless APUSH doesn’t count as a social science o.o

Usually colleges want recs from two different subjects that are not related to each other. You should definitely get a rec from your Econ/IB teacher, but either a math or science one for the second rec otherwise you would only have recs for one subject, SS.

Okay I’m definitely getting one from my econ teacher. As for the second one…I really can’t decide now. My APUSH teacher is the one out of every teacher I’v ever had that knows me well. =/

Pretty sure thats fine. The teachers arent writting just about how you do in a particular subject

You could get three recs instead of just two.

But honestly… it’s better to have recs from teachers who know you really well. If they know you well, they won’t be talking about your academics anyways. They’ll be talking about your qualities as a person.

I’m planning on getting recs from my French, History, and Band teacher… I’ve have the French teacher for five years, the history teacher for three and one year as a coach, and the band teacher for 7 years. They’re the teachers who know me best… so that’s who I’m using.

Okay thanks everyone! So I’ve decided to get recs from my APUSH and econ teacher since they’ve had me for 2+ years and know me well.

Sorry to steal your thread, but I also have the same question…I want to be a pre-med @ Cornell/Penn, except I plan on asking my French and math teachers for recommendations because my science teachers don’t know me well. Will my lack of science-teacher-recommendation (esp. since I’m probably going to major in biochemistry) kill me? I only have like, three science-related ECs.
