Hi, I am an incoming freshman at WashU and was hoping for some answers about the newish IQ Curriculum at WashU.
It says that you must take 3 courses in the four academic areas (Language and Cultural Diversity/Humanities/Social Sciences/and Natural Sciences and Math) - 4 courses in the Language area. For these requirements, is double dipping an option? So if there was a class that was attributed as belonging to both Humanities and Language could it count for both those requirements?
Also there are certain “integration” requirements and I’m not exactly sure what these are referring to.
Right now I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to fit being pre-med/chemistry major w/ biochem concentration/and secondary business major with these requirements all into 4 years (40-45 classes). Thanks for your help!
It says on the website that students must complete three integrations in at least two areas. It is a bit unclear whether this means a total of three integrations between at least two different areas (3 total) or three integrations in at least two areas (6 total).
I am also wondering what it exactly means by “integrations”. So are the integrations things that bring together two different course areas, so I’d need to do 3 integrations that involve both Social Sciences and Natural Sciences?, or is an integration done within one area?
Was also still wondering if “double dipping” for academic areas course requirements was allowed.
I know it would be better for me to just find and join some of the student groups already but if any current student would see this and answer that would be extremely helpful.
Integration is pretty easy to get. One can be your major, so check, and the other two can be a combo of two science/math classes and a freshman seminar, just as examples. I am a freshman right now and I have those two completed already, with only the major remaining.
Anyways, don’t worry about it. Take whatever you want, your advisor will probably tell you that naturally you will fill most of the requirements. Just chill out and enjoy your last half year of sanity.
