Questions about the School of Continuing Studies and MPS programs

How is the SCS overall? As an admitted graduate student, I wanted to know more about the Master’s programs offered and how good they are in terms of faculty and success.

Does anyone know anything about the Applied Intelligence MPS program as well? I am considering that program for my graduate studies and wanted some reviews or feedback from anyone who heard anything about it.

The SCS is comprised of ‘professional’ programs, designed for and geared around the needs and schedule of full-time working professionals. It is comparable to similar schools at many other universities around the country. These types of programs largely came out of ‘extension schools’ and the desire for formal, university-affiliated graduate credentials in professional disciplines that traditionally didn’t have them (or didn’t have very many of them).

Where more traditional graduate programs are typically more focused on theory and research, professional programs are more focused on practice and the tools of the trade. They are very much focused on preparing you for employment in a particular field. You should be able to find faculty bios online and get job placement/career success information from the school.

This forum is mostly undergraduate-focused, so you’d probably have more luck trying to get in contact with some alumni of that program in particular. The school might be able to arrange that, or else you can do some LinkedIn searching and the like.

Thanks for the help, I’ll look into it more.

You can find their Faculty section at https://scs.georgetown.edu/programs/423/master-of-professional-studies-in-applied-intelligence/faculty and their “Career Outlook” section at https://scs.georgetown.edu/programs/423/master-of-professional-studies-in-applied-intelligence/career-outlook

Honestly, though, don’t be shy about giving them a call. These sorts of professional programs tend to be much more customer service oriented than their more ivory tower cousins (I say that as someone who got a master’s from Georgetown’s more ivory tower version of this very degree haha), so you’re more likely to get the personal touch when it comes to having your questions answered.
