Questions about transcript

(backstory) Hello, I do very well in my core classes, but not in arts (70s) or gym(70s or 80s). I get anxiety when performing or exercising, so I get rated low, and it reflects on my report card (This year I was graded more fairly in gym however, I received an 85). I am a rising junior, and wanted to know about the admissions process before school started to focus in school and not worry about it. I want to know if colleges take these classes into consideration, or if they are irrelevant since I am not majoring in them, and if GPA is looked at, or every individual class is.

Here is a typical report card for me:
Math- 95-99
History-95-99*
Science- 90-95*
English- 88-93*
Gym- 73-78
Theatre- 70-75
I have not taken a language yet, but most people I know say the teacher grades easily.

  • honors level, will be AP in junior year.

In short, I want to know if art/PE scores count, because my gpa is always in the 85-87 range with them, and in the 92-95 range without them. It makes me so irritated when I get my report card since it is very hard for me to improve in those classes, and I would never use them in college.

I am in a rush, so sorry for my writing.

There are two parts to this

  1. On the common app, you should report the GPA your school reports on your transcript. If you don't know what that is, talk to your guidance counselor. That GPA will (almost definitely) include all courses taken at the school including Gym and Theater.
  2. Most colleges will (behind the scenes) recalculate your GPA (based on the grades on your transcript) using their own metric. This is done to standardize GPAs from around the world. Some schools MAY exclude non-core subjects, freshman year grades, etc in this recalculated GPA, but they generally don't publish their metrics so there's no real way to tell.
