Questions about Transfer

Hello,

I heard from my friend that it is impossible to transfer (in the US) from a large college in a state to another college in another state. Is this true?

I heard that the only way you can transfer to a school in another state is to go to a school or community college in that same state.

???? One...... I think you heard wrong, you can totally transfer to another school in a different state

Two. Your second sentence is worded wrong, or im reading it really wrong

no..that's so wrong... It might be easier to transfer from community college to 4-year universities in the same state (because usually they have direct-admit-agreement). But it is very possible to transfer to another state (or even to another country), as long as you have good stats.

Here's how transfer generally works.
People attending college can apply during their freshman or sophmore year in college to transfer to a different college. After this, it's difficult because colleges usually have a minimum amount of credits you have to complete there in order to graduate with a degree from that university. So, if you try to transfer as a junior, you'll probably not have enough college left to switch schools.
You can transfer from any school to any school, in theory. However, with the UC system, it is sometimes easier to transfer if you've attended a community college in California. This is not to say that it's impossible from outside California.
I would reccommend looking at the Transfer 101 thread, it offers a lot of helpful information.
