Questions about UC Application Update & myBerkeleyApplication...

Got it as well.

However I remember there were several people who received it in last year’s thread and it doesn’t mean much.

Edit: Actually, I think it gets sent to people who checked the ‘leadership’ box in the scholarship part of the UC application.

Did anyone else who received it check something similar on the app?

@luckie1367‌, I think that’s it. I remember from last year a lot of people said they’d checked something on the application in the scholarship section. Congrats to you too! :x

I am having filling in the Major Prerequisites form on the app.

I’m coming from the quarter system, Berkeley’s Chemistry 1A w/lab is articulated to both Chem 1A and 1B in my college. My problem is that on the app, there is only one box for each pre-req class. Does anyone know how I should fill in the app for multiple articulated courses for a single pre-req?

Have a question about myBerkeley for the IGETC fulfillment section: For the Arts/Human. & Social/Behavioral courses since I can only list 3 in each, can I put in only the courses I received A’s in?

Or do I have to go by date taken and show the 2 B’s I got :frowning:

Just list three of your choice. All they are looking for here is that the req is fulfilled.

@JustinUC
I arranged my courses so I only listed As for breadth. I would advise you to do the same.

I did the same. Especially for IGETC, they just want to make sure it is filled out, I don’t think they mind which classes you use so long as the requirements are filled.

Thanks guys. I have another question unrelated to the forms: Does Spring schedule have any affect on admission chances?

I only need 9units to hit 60, but I plan on taking at least 12, maybe 15. Only 1 course is actually required for IGETC, the other courses are either general interest filler or major related (NOT pre-req’s I already finished those). As a sociology major I have 3 courses in the subject planned for Spring and I feel like dropping one just to ease off and save money not buying another textbook, but I wouldn’t drop it if it’d help my admission chances.

I’ll be at 5 total sociology classes in my cc career if I take it, 4 if I drop it. Would like to hear your thoughts

I don’t think it will make a difference at all. Adding major-related is good, but I think 4 is fine.

I’m little bit confused about filling the course for Biological Science area. I already took biology one, which is a normal class. I’m taking a bio lab this semester. I need to complete to complete both course to fulfill IGETC requirements. The box in the form said “one course required” so does it mean I only need to input one course? Or Should I put both? Does I put biology class go into the “class w/t lab” section and my bio lab into “class with lab”?

What I would suggest is to put both in the one box, such as:

Biol100/195
Intro to bio/ plus lab
4 units
Then you need to go to a GPA calculator and calculate the two grades if different, so you have a composite. Actually, that is what a UCB rep said to do.

@lindyk8‌ But I’m talking bio lab this semester. Does it mean I only enter grade for bio class ? Or should I put like A/IP?

Hmm, OK, yeah do it this way:

Biol 100/195 (or whatever the numbers are)
–> in descriptions put “IP spring” for lab part ONLY if there isn’t a grade part (I can’t recall).
But I think there is a grade part. If so, just put it there - e.g., “B/IP”

All they want with this form is to be able to quickly eyeball your major req, IGETC, total transferable unit count.

yes both of them have column for grade. So you’re saying that I should put Biology 1/1L in the box for Biol with Lab, then in the grade column I put A/IP, and in term column I put Summer 14/Spring 15?

I’m just afraid if I don’t put it correctly they won’t count my class.

i don’t have it right in front of me, but yes, that is what I would do. You really have no choice, as they only have two boxes available, the science without lab and the science with lab.

If there is a comment box (don’t remember), add it there too. But I can totally figure out what you are saying based on what you put down.

@bizmlover‌
Are you sure you need two Biological Sciences for IGETC? Or is one of them for Physical Sciences? Typically you need just one of both, and one of them has to have a lab.

I think he’s talking about the lab.

Yes, it’s the lab. Thank you so much , I’ll update my app!

Are winter session courses taken into account for GPA and overall admissions process? I have an unofficial ‘A’ in a major related course (not a prereq) that i’d like to (prematurely) put into my tau if you guys would suggest it.

I have a 3.79, with it I’m at a 3.80 flat, and since it’s major related I feel it would help a lot. It is unofficial, however, course is not over and it’s not reflected as an ‘A’ in my transcript yet, but I know my grade because it’s an online blackboard class. Grades are immediately recorded and I’ve already the completed the requirements and scored high enough for an A.

According to the UC website they do not calculate winter session into the GPA, although some UCs may take it under consideration. If the grade has been posted, add it to the TAU today. If not add it later but be sure to email each UC about it. I guess it is not calculated into the GPA per se, but it is considered by some during selection.
