Hey, I’ve been looking alot into Umuch lately and I’m really starting to like it. I have a couple questions about the school and the admission process.

What exactly is the honors program? And how do you get admitted, do they just choose it on their own from their best applicants or do you specify that you want to be included?

Also if I am hoping to end up in the Ross business school, am I supposed to apply for that when I apply as a freshman or do I worry about that when i am a junior?

Also, can you be in the honors program and Ross?

How diverse is the student body? (geographically, ethnically, and economically)

And finally, I know that Umich has some kind of modified rolling admissions process. If you apply early, the do you have a better shot at admissions or do you just hear your decision earlier? Also, when is the earliest you can apply? And then, how long does it take to get your decision?

Thanks everybody!

Another question, what is LSA?

Honors Program you can easily look up on their main webpage.

To attend the Ross School of Business as an undergrad, you can apply as a senior in high school. If accepted, you will be able to matriculate into Ross as a sophomore. If not, you may apply as a freshman.

This Im not sure. Probably not. As I havn't heard from Ross yet, I cannot give you a valid answer.

Diversity is limited compared to other major universities, mostly due to the fact that it is a state university. Hence, there will naturally be more Michigan residents.

Decisions are quick. I got mine March 1st and I applied December 12th-ish. Rolling decision would affect your decision because they will accept all qualified students as they read off the applications. Hence, by nature, applying early would be to your favor. OTher questions can be found by visitng their main site. Do some research yourself first before asking at CC.

LSA stands for the College of Literature, Science, adn the Arts.

Thanks for all the info!!!

BTW, I realize I can find alot of the info on their site, but it wasn't all very clear to me. For example, I found a page on the honors program, but it was for the college of arts and sciences, not the other ones, so I was trying to find out if it was available at Ross and other schools. Also I checked out the application, and there was nothing to check if you wanted to apply for the honors program, so I wasn't sure if it is one of those things the college selects by itself. If anyone knows, please help...

Also for Ross, if I apply for the preferred admission program, will I basically be in the LSA for my freshman year and then i'm GAURANTEED a spot in Ross for sophmore and beyond? And I'm assuming if I decide not to attend Ross and go into business I can easily stay in the LSA or apply to transfer to another school within Umich?

Also, on the diversity issue, how diviersified is it compares to other state universities? (Geographically) And more importantly, is it ethnically diverse? The reason I ask is cause I've both the college and neighborhood are mostly white (more than other colleges)...is this true?

The Honors college is only for LSA. And there's really no other school to transfer to from LSA. LSA is the biggest college and pretty much has everything, with the big exception of engineering.

You can do the preferred admission to Ross, otherwise you just apply as a sophomore.

Also, UM is very diverse. I think it's something like 65% white. There are a lot of Asians. And 40% are from out-of-state.

But then if I do preferred admission to Ross, what exactly does that mean? Does it mean that I start Ross as a freshman, or I would be garunteed a spot in my sophmore year? Thanks!

You will be forced to study at whatever college you applied as a high school senior only for your freshman year. On your sophomore year, you will be automatically transferred to Ross considering that you fulfill their minimum requirements.

You can be in LSA honors for frosh year and then go to Ross for the rest of your years, but you cannot be in both at once.
