I'm currently a CC student in my last semester before receiving my associates and want to transfer to the following... University of Texas at Austin, University of Maryland - College Park, SUNY-Binghamton, University of Florida and possibly Indiana University. In that order ;p
I have two questions
- I feel as though the community college that i attended gave me little challenge academically and i am frightened that i will do poorly at one of the above universities. Is it hard to transition from a CC to a "real" school?
- Being that i am a permanent resident in NY and plan on majoring in finance, should i transfer to Binghamton where tuition will be cheaper or go out of state to one of the better schools.

A recent ranking by Kiplinger's puts SUNY-Bing very high in combination of top-flight academics and affordability; higher than any of your other possibles except Florida.

Not that I think rankings are the end-all and be-all, but with your NY State residence, I don't think you should feel that Binghamton would be "settling" for something "lesser" than your other schools.

All the schools you are targetting are excellent. Obviously, we don't know you; but I don't think you need worry about cutting it at a strong 4-year institution. If you are motivated, organize your life to give adequate time to study as well as fun, and take advantage of any support resources if you need them (academic support centers, tutoring, study groups), you will do fine.

Best of luck.

Here's some information from the Parent Forum re the ranking I referred to:
