From what I’ve heard, it’s pretty difficult to transfer among colleges. Your friend could still give it a shot although I bet he would need a pretty good reason to transfer.

AcEsTeR14 and reagan_1991:

While there are a lot of engineers, many of the engineers I know are not nerds and have fun regularly. Don’t worry. There are plenty of girls, also (for example, me … Biochem/Bio woot!) =P. Besides, you won’t be confined to your own college. If you have friends from your high school going to other colleges at UCSD, have them introduce you to the people they live with, and meet your roommates’/suitemates’ high school friends as well! =]

hey cali,
How much does it cost to keep your car in the Hopkins parking structure?

I was accepted to Warren and will be studying chemical engineering. From what I’ve seen a lot of the requirements overlap, so I believe I picked the right college. The thing that worries me about Warren is the writing requirement since my English isn’t very good - how difficult is it to get an A? Are the professors/TAs teaching it helpful? Also, is there a foreign language requirement?

I know that chemical engineering is a fairly demanding major, but is there freedom to take other classes I’m interested in like biology or music etc. I have quite a few AP credits, but I’m not sure if it would be a good idea to use them or retake the classes. Thanks for your help.

JTC591:

It’s difficult to get an A. Out of my class of 14 or 15 people, I think 2 or 3 got an A although since we did not compare grades in the ends, I can not be 100% sure. If you think you would need more help, go to the professor’s or TA’s office hours.

There’s no foreign language requirement. Yay!

Use the AP credits to eliminate some of the lower division major requirements and GE’s. This will free up your time to take other classes in which you also have interest. With good time management, I’m sure you can balance all of your activities. If a quarter starts to become too demanding, just drop a class.

what are the chances of making a sports team, such as swimming or water polo

i didnt play sports in high school though
i just thought why not try it out and see what happens

I’m sorry I don’t know the stats of getting on an UCSD team, but give it a shot anyway. Most of my friends do Intramural sports, so you can check that out too if you’re interested. :)

Hi cali45:

I am a transfer student accepted by Warren. Do transfer students need to take the Warren Writing Program? (I have finish IGETC)

housinglee:

Check [Welcome to ASSIST](<a href=“Welcome to ASSIST”>Welcome to ASSIST) to see if there is any transferrable coursework. Select UCSD first, then the community college from which you’re transferring courses, and under “For General Education/Breadth,” pick Earl Warren College. Read the information under “Writing.”

As far as I know of, you have to take the two Warren Writing classes at UCSD, but I may be wrong or there may be exceptions.

I am not too familiar with IGETC, but you can also e-mail or call the Warren Writing Program for a more accurate answer.
warrenwritingprogram@ucsd.edu/email534-3068

Here’s some more links:

Cali 45,

I selected courses appropriate for GE’s from [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org), using the scroll down menu on the main page to select the Skyline college, the “For General Education/Breadth.” If it says no match found, does this mean the Skyline college course credit cannot be transferred towards ucsd?

westin:

Thankfully NO. That’s just assist.org being ■■■■■■■■. =P

For example, say you want to take Math 20A for the Formal Skills requirement. Instead of looking under “For General Education/Breadth,” check the Math Department (or any of the Math majors, but Department is easier to search). You will see that if you choose the Mathematics Department, Math 251 at Skyline is equivalent to Math 20A at UCSD. Therefore, you CAN complete Warren GEs at Skyline.

I don’t know why “For General Education/Breadth” says no match found; perhaps Assist just didn’t bother to update or create the page. @@

Here’s the Warren Academic Advising Handbook, so you can check other GE classes too:

And just in case I may be wrong (though I don’t think I am), you can contact Warren advising through their online Virtual Advising Center (under “Quick Links” in the left sidebar) or you can call them
