Warren College

What can you tell me about it?

I'm trying to find out more about it as someone who is thinking about attending UCSD in the Fall (just accepted) and needs more information than what I have been able to find on the web, which is primarily taken straight from UCSD's website.

I need personal opinions from people currently attending UCSD or who just know more about the general quality of life at Warren college. Anything outside what the university website gives is much appreciated! Thank you!

I got accepted in Warren for Winter 09 and I wanna know too..
Is it really mostly engineering majors??
How do you think a PoliSci: Intl Relations would do at Warren?

It doesn't matter what major you're in at which college. Warren has more engineering primarily because it has the fewest GE requirements which is good when you're saddled with the heavy courseload required for engineering versus most other majors. It's also closer to many of the engineering classroom buildings. Warren has decent enough dorms and are more modern looking than those at Muir, Revelle, or 6th, but there really isn't that huge of a difference in dorms at the UCSD colleges I've been in (Muir, Warren, Revelle).

After your first 2 years when you move off-campus the college won't matter at all except from the GE perspective.

Thanks for info.

Sounds like I at least chose a college with good GE's, but can anyone tell me anything about Warren that could severely affect my decision to attend UCSD or not?

Or is it like the person above me stated, that they are all quite similar and it won't matter since I would move off campus by year 3?

@strongbadfan: I'm in the same boat, admitted to Warren for Winter 09'

I'm just worried about housing issues, and I have no idea when and if there will be any bumping to Fall for the winter admits if there is room.

oh, and did they tell you what major you got accepted to if you got in for winter?

fbxcore
it should say what major you got accepted into when they tell you that you got accepted in Warren Winter 09

Dear _____,

On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students of the University of California, San Diego, I congratulate you on your admission to Warren College as a major in _______ for Winter Quarter, 2009! UC San Diego is one of the nation's premier universities, and we look forward to welcoming you to our campus.

I think the best thing to do about housing is to find other winter 09 admits and share an apartment off campus or something. I'm not so worried about housing. The thought of going to city/community college is more scary to me. But what else can we do during sd's fall quarter?

i'm looking at going towards like a business field. would warren be good for things like international studies, management science or economics?

Email them, maybe it was a typo.... or they dont know yet.
What major did you want?

^^ undeclared? o.o

yea. i'm an undeclared major. i looked at the ucsd majors and they have 3 that i want to possibly do. econ, management science and international studies. Will being in Warren College affect me at what major I want to go towards?

OK, something needs to be cleared up here: you can major in whatever you want no matter which college you are in, and more importantly, a specific college is not "good" for a certain major, at all: what you major in and what college you are in have nothing to do each other. The only slight exception to this is that at Warren, engineers have fewer GE requirements than non-engineers...other than that, it really doesn't make sense to ask if Warren is "good" for certain majors, since you can major in anything at any college!
Also, Warren has very flexible GE requirements, if you go on the Warren College website there is information about them.

Can anyone give me the 411 on what life is actually LIKE @ Warren?

I mean, I did put Warren as my #1 choice (I really loved its GE reqs, plus the fact that it said I could get internships and whatnot) so I did do my homework... but none of the sites I went to actually said anything about what the social/dorm life is like at Warren.

I'd love to get an insider's view on Warren. Like, is it "seeped in traditions"? Are the people friendly? How studious is Warren, anyways?

... Anyone?

got into Warren too, but haven't heard much (good or bad) about it...

warren is pretty sweet. the location is nice, there is a pool nearby, a rock climbing center, the library, and the price center (food, student store, book store).

it looks similar to a multi story apartment complex.

i love warren. =]
people complain about the fact that it's far from everything but it's close to the center of the campus (library, price center) so yeah. we have decent food, pool really close, warren field (you can play soccer, football and whatnot). all in all i love it. plus there's shuttle stops right there if you mind walking. personaly, i love walking so i don't complain.

and i'd like to repeat what a couple of people have been saying, your major doesn't matter. warren is just better for engineers because they have a little less GE requirements than non engineers but that's about it.

as far as programs of concentration go, you can minor and which would replace a pofc.

cool! Good to finally be getting some direct perspectives on Warren life! Sounds like...

Which college you are in doesn't matter after first year or so anyways...and

Warren is a pretty decent one to be in anyways!

I'm happy, still deciding whether I want to go to UCSD or not though...thanks for all the input. Any more insight into Warren life is appreciated!

I heard Warren's living facilities is definitely one of the better ones, is that true? And how is the food?

I'm so excited I got into SD!!

i've heard warren had decent res halls too (before i got here that is) but some of the other colleges definetly have bigger rooms from what i've seen. i do think the warren suites are better.

we have 4 singles and 2 triples in a suite. one common bathroom and one common room. nope no kitchen in the res halls. apartments do have it though.

some freshmen get placed into apartments because there's no more room in the res halls. apartments have only two rooms, a double and a triple. the apartments are pretty nice too.

some people complain about the food but eh, i don't think any dinning halls are better than Canyon Vista with the exception of OVT over in marshall. (which btw is open till 1 am). i usually order from the grill so i can't give you that much info about the food. i can tell you that the pizza is great. i wish they had bbq chicken more often.

what can i say. to me, warren is the place to be. i wouldn't trade with any other college BUT then again i've been living here for 2 quarters so maybe i'm a little biased. haha.

but a visit to the campus should help you guys decide better. i recommend admit day but if you can't make it, come some other day. you should come during the week though when everybody's here.

I got into UCSD's Earl Warren campus but, I'm debating over going to SD or Davis.
For anyone who goes to UCSD, how much walking do you have to do at UCSD?
I've heard it's isolated, which I'm OK with, but I need to know whether or not all parts of the campus are accessible by walking.
I mean, how far is Earl Warren from Muir?
And also, what is there to do around the campus?
