Questions for Emory upperclassmen

Hello,

I am trying to help my son find off-campus housing, as he is 99% sure he will be attending grad school there next fall. And neither he, nor I know a lot about Atlanta housing. Can anyone there give us some good ideas where to start looking, neighborhoods, rent ranges, etc. Any information you could share would be greatly appreciated.... Thanks!

Emory has some nice grad school housing off Clairmont (the Clairmont campus) - have you looked into that?

Rent in the area seems to be high hundreds to low thousand area. Most areas right around Emory are good, but be careful about venturing too far in seach of low cost - some areas are not good to live in (higher crime, etc...). Don't agree to anything sight unseen. Wish I could be more help.

1tcm,

You might want to try sending a PM to "boysx3"... his son is a senior at Emory presently and lives in an off-campus apartment very close to the Clairmont campus, and I believe close enough to walk to the Emory shuttle. He is generally well-informed and open to helping people.

Also, you might want to try looking in the Housing category of Craigslist for Atlanta and searching for housing using "Emory" as a search parameter.

Craigslist/Atlanta: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/

P.S. The area around Emory is known as Druid Hills, but anywhere in the vicinity of Clairmont Rd/No. Decatur Rd. would probably be good. The "Clifton Corridor" (near CDC) is notorious for its traffic, so be aware. Also, the town of Decatur is reasonably close to the Emory campus.

Thank you both...

Son was told that the Clairmont grad housing is going to be switched to undergrad after May of 2008, so he is just going to look off-campus, so he won't have to be moving during summer research. (I asked about this myself...LOL).

I will send a PM to boysx3...thanks!

Did you look in The Wheel, the undergrad newspaper? http://www.emorywheel.com The PDF version is on the left and you can view classifieds. There were only a few in today's issue but worth keeping an eye on it or even posting your own ad.
