Questions for parents of current students

Is there a laundry service available for Freshman ?

Are the twin bed xtra long? Do you need to buy extra storage for the dorms?

Do any of the hotels give discounts for Chapman parents?

At Orientation, there was a group advertising laundry service. They were everywhere handing out info. It is not run bu the university but seemed to employ students.

Freshmen are put into one of these dorms (https://www.chapman.edu/students/services/housing-and-residence/on-campus/options/index.aspx#Housing Options) by major. Click on each hall name and then Room Amenities. All of the rooms have XL beds and storage, but people do buy various storage containers too.

Here are this year’s dorm assignments: http://www.chapman.edu/students/services/housing-and-residence/_files/housing-pdfs/academic-program-locations-2013-2014.pdf. They are not guaranteed for next year. They balance it by numbers. This year was similar to last year. Freshmen are usually tripled or doubled.

I don’t know of any hotel discounts. When we dropped him off, we stayed at the Best Western Orange Plaza and found it ok but a little icky. Friends stayed at Ayres and it was much nicer. We have visited since and stayed at Doubletree near Disneyland - we were combining it with a family trip there.

There is also a service that will clean the dorm rooms for the kids. My son never used it and the university comes into the rooms about once a semester to clean them. There is a small charge for cleaning at the end of the year. All the moms show up with cleaning supplies for their kids on the move in day. Sometimes they are used…

My son has lived in the dorms for 3 years and next year (senior) he is moving into an apartment with another friend he met in the dorm.

There looks like there is a dry cleaner & laundry, Spic’n Span Cleaners right off the Orange Circle - which is an easy walk from campus. I think most the washers in the dorms are hooked up to an app (or something) so the kids can see when there are washers available for use in the dorm. I live in Orange County so my son brought home his laundry…

I have an incoming freshman (Class of 2019) this year, a senior and a grad of Chapman; so message me with any questions if you would like. GO PANTHERS!

Does Chapman offer any kind of transfer service from the Orange airport to campus?

Yes, at major breaks such as Thanksgiving. The students get a link to sign up online. There may be a small fee; I cant remember. At other times, it’s close enough to easily taxi or Uber.

Many, many of the students have cars. (You actually have to actively waive the parking fee.) My son has always been able to get a ride to/from the airport when needed.

Metrolink also has a station very close to campus, clean, safe and reliable.
