Dorm rooms-do students clean rooms themselves or is there a service? Are supplies available like vacuums, broom, paper towels etc.

Bathroom{shared and communal} Who cleans these and how often?

Do we do all our own laundry including bed linen or is there a service for this,

I like clean and can't function in chaos, Need to learn now to do all of this now so I can cope,
Do we have to pay to do laundry? Is there a store like target nearby so I can get sheets, snacks, comfort items. Kinda a worried as i have lived at home all the time with most things done for me.Looking forward to the change but feeling overwhelmed.

this may vary depending on the college, but in my experience:

you are entirely responsible for your actual bedroom. at my college, we have a “vacuum rep” who loans out a vacuum (except it sucks so it’s not much help). you’re on your own as far as other supplies go.

i live in a suite with two bedrooms, a common room, and a bathroom. our common room and bathroom get cleaned once a week, which is really nice. they take out the trash like every other day.

you have to do all your own laundry at every college as far as i know, although there’s been talk about a concierge service at my college. washers and dryers are free.

your oweek group will probably do a target run so i would stock up on snacks and such then. if you’re driving to rice you can also bring supplies and snacks with you to save a trip.

Every Saturday morning there is a bus that does the continuous loop to nearby Target superstore, nice grocery store and some smaller shopping area (Big Lot’s and I cannot remember all the others at the location). So no problem getting snacks or any routine supplies you need as long as you plan ahead for the Saturday morning.

Also there is a web site where you can monitor the bus location on it’s route so you can time a location. I think a bus runs like every 20-30 minutes (there is more than one bus)

Here is the link but you will not see the buses unless it happens to be a Saturday morning and they are making their loop.

I share a community bathroom with other females on my floor and the cleaning people clean it often. When your trash is full you just place it outside your door and they will collect it for you. You have to do your own laundry, but it is free. Don’t stress, it’s not bad (:
