Hey people. So I’m currently enrolled at Ithaca College as a freshman piano Music Education major - however, I’m seriously thinking about a possible transfer to BU’s MusEd program, which I’ve heard is excellent. I’m also looking to specialize in the jazz realm, and Ithaca’s jazz scene is close to nothing. I’m not sure how happening BU’s jazz scene is, but I know it’s gotta be considerably better seeing as Boston has so many other schools that I know have good jazz programs. It’s clearly just a more lively musical environment in general.
Some details about myself as a student: I took a bunch of IB courses in high school and finished with a 3.9 GPA, I was in NHS and the Spanish NHS, and I’ve been accepted to numerous state festivals for jazz piano. My SAT score was 2160 (I’m pretty sure) and my ACT score was 31.
Questions!
- how difficult is it to transfer to BU as a music student? Do your regular academics factor in more/less/the same amount as how well you play?
- does the conservatory have a strong jazz program, if any program?
- is it all classical all the time, or is there a lot of contemporary music as well?
- could I be eligible for any scholarships besides music scholarships? cuz that is expensive
thanks fam
