Anybody have any ideas regarding which meal plan, I'm debating between the 150 meals/semester with $500 dining flex or 10 meals/week with $500 dining flex. Any ideas on the physics 1st year seminar and how is the honors chem?

my first semester as a tarheel i had the 14 weekly meal plan and that was way too much, so i recommend the 150 block plan and then buy some dining flex. there's a lot of free food around campus during WOW.

chemistry is very hard and takes a lot of your time, but I've never taken honors chem i just had chem 11, but then again i'm just a pschology major.

Thanks Uncadeto8 - This year on the brochure they suggest either the 10 meals/week or 150 meals/semester. They both come with $500 dining flex. So what is the difference in the two?

blue, they don't come with $500 dining flex. They are recommending $500 dining flex.

lets say you have a 10 meal weekly plan, but you only eat at the dining halls 8 times during that week, lets say you go out a lot during that week and dont' eat at the dining hall or lets say you go to bottom of lenior and use your flex, either way there are 2 meals that you didn't use and those 2 meals cost you and you lost them.

in the 150 meals/semester block plan you will have enough for 10 meals a week but if you go out and eat on franklin and don't use them, you won't lose them until the semester turns over to the next.

personally i'm going with the 150 block plan for the fall and i'm going with the 14 weekly meal plan for the spring, just because i eat a lot more at the dining halls during the spring time.

i think dining flex comes with the value plans but $500 is way too much flex money for me. I usually get $100 flex and if i need any more i'll add some during the year, its really easy to do.

also guys don't forget to get money on your expense account, you need money on the expense account to use the laundry machines and lets say you want to get some snacks or drinks from the vending machines and you dont' have cash, they take one cards and they deduct from the expense. the arcade at ramshead also takes from the expense.

The block plans are better because, as unccadet pointed out, they carry over from week to week during a semester, but not between semesters. Your flex dollars will carry over but not meal plans. One thing to use to determine the right meal plan is are you going to get up and eat breakfast? If not 150 may be too many. For the guys, the fraternities have great food available during Fall rush (even if you aren't really planning to join you can go through rush and eat) and as unccadet also said, there is a lot of free food during WOW. Last year my son picked the 150 meals with $400 flex the Fall semester and dropped back to 100 meals in the Spring. This coming year he is opting for 100 meal block and $500 flex dollars because he rarely eats breakfast in the dining halls and often eats on Franklin St with friends as well. Again it really depends on your eating habits.

If I am not mistaken, you can revise your meal plan up or down during the first two weks of school as well, though I'm not sure that the first two weeks of freshman year are a good indication of how the rest of the year will be.
