I’m not sure if this is the right forum but here it goes. I’m in high school right now and I just have some questions I need to be answered before i head into college.
First to start off I wanted to know if you take a major for 4 years and complete it fine. With everything passed and no issues do you get a Bachelor’s Degree or is there another route to take in order to get one?
Second, do I need to take minors or can i just focus on my major? Is it okay if i just take classes to focus on my major and ignore minors?
If someone could please answer these questions it would be great.
It depends on what you hope to do.
Some students can’t afford to go to a 4 year university, so they go first to a Community college and take general education requirements that can transfer after two years to a university.
After taking the required courses at your high school, you apply to a college; some students declare a major that they hope to study. They take 2 years of courses that cover general education and the last two years are generally your major requirements. You go to a college’s website. They have admissions requirements and tell you what you should do in high school to be eligible to apply.
No, it is not necessary for you to do a minor. Some people do because it may help them in their occupation. Some people take a minor because they want to do something personal with it (like study music or art).
All of this information is available from your high school advising office. You can also go to the websites of the schools you think you would like to attend. Go on the websites as many times as you’d like. Read all of the information and prepare yourself.
