Questions on U of R

Hey everyone, I've recently become quite interested in Rochester, but unfortunately it is going to be a reach for me (probably ending this junior year with a 3.6 - hopefully I will get high SAT scores). Just have a few questions :)

How are the politics? Do students tend to be liberal or conservative? Are students politically active or mainly apathetic?

I'm interested in a major and minor in either the humanities or social sciences, would by chance the admissions for these areas be less selective than the hard sciences?

I've replied to an e-mail sent to me and requested a free promotional DVD they offered on the page, plan on visiting, and interviewing via phone. Are there any other ways I can express my true interest? Also, how important is one's interest in the school to admissions?

Does Rochester feel "liberal artsy" or "pre-professional"? I myself like the sound of a "liberal-artsy" feel but at the same time want to feel confident in job placement, etc. after graduation. So all-in-all I almost want a half LAC half pre-professional University if that is at all realistic. Does Rochester at all fit this description?

Thanks in advance for all replies!

there isn't much time for politics, but there was alot this year cus of elections. Students do hold protests, but nothing huge.

admissions do not care if u choose science or social science or humanities. Just do what u like. IN fact, it may be better if u choose social science or humanities because they get like 80% of pre-med apprication types. (I was one of them, and about 60% drop premed after the first 2 years)

Interviewing is the best way to show interest. Just be chill, don't be a suckup, they can smell that from far away. DOn't lie, just talk about what u like to do, even play video games or one thing to talk about is go to the website and find a club u may like to join and talk about that and why.

pre-prof. and artsy. It's not any one identity. Its like HS, Pre-prof kids have an artsy side and artsy ppl are hard students too. It's pretty chill, nobody really brags. there will always be ppl who brag about stupid ****, but then they look around and realize that just as many other ppl are smarter than them. Sorry if that sounds like a weird answer.
