I’m currently a junior and this year I’m taking AP Chem, AP English Lang&Comp, AP Physics I, APUSH, Spanish 3, and Honors Pre-Calc.
I got straight A’s first semester.
For next year I wanted to take AP Calc AB, AP Bio, AP Gov, AP English Lit&Comp, AP Psychology, AP World History and Spanish 4. I’ve would have a full schedule/no lunch or study hall.
I don’t know whether or not I should take a study hall instead of AP World or Spanish 4.
I want to major in Chemistry and Premed and I obviously want a rigorous curriculum but I don’t want to take an unnecessary class.
Anyone? Scheduling is in a couple of days.
Most schools require a lunch, when would you eat? You have a strong schedule this year, I wouldn’t recommend 8 courses without a lunch or study hall next year. Keep in mind there will be college apps and essays senior year too. If you want to major in chem or pre-med, i would look to reduce one of the social studies courses. You would still have a very rigorous schedule. If you are worried, you could speak with guidance counselor and be sure they would mark your schedule as such. Good luck!
I would only be 7 courses because AP Bio is a 2 block course. I could just not take AP World and have a lunch but I did really like Honors World History.
Eating is important as is a break through-out the day. IMO I would take the lunch and decide between dropping AP World or AP Psych.
Drop either AP psychology OR AP world, and take the lunch period /Study Hall.
I think AP world is more likely to carry credit to give you breathing room in college, but check Te credit policy at the colleges you’re interested in, especially matches and safeties.
Don’t drop anything and change calculus ab to bc if offered. You don’t need 45 min to eat a sandwich.
I signed up for all 6 AP today but I can drop one before next year if I want. And my school doesn’t offer calculus bc
You should definitely schedule a free period and it is also important to take the 4th yr of a language for selective schools. So drop either psych, world or gov.
I am taking Spanish 4 also.
Keep in mind it’s your senior year next year! I am a senior now; I am definitely not taking as heavy of a course load as you are planning to take, and I have senioritis! I promise, you are not going to want to do the work required to succeed in those classes during March next year.
Also if you plan on applying to schools like UPenn or other competitive schools, they may not take all the credits that you are working so hard for. Some schools also only take one AP for english and history (so assuming you do well in Lang, don’t take Lit or assuming you do well in APUSH, don’t take World etc)
(You can get into great schools without killing your senior year! I’ve gotten into Northeastern U, the Naval Academy, the University of Delaware so far!)
Good luck !
I don’t plan on attending an Ivy League schools since my ACT is only going to be around a 29-31 but I’d like to get into a competitive premed/research based university.
how are your extracurriculars?
I’m in NHS and do a good amount of volunteer work with them but none on my own time. I played basketball freshman year, and baseball all 3 years so far. (I plan on playing for all 4). I’ve done a few leadership positions at my schools but that’s about it.
Volunteer hours aren’t separated by “NHS” and “non NHS”. They’re hours. What will matter to selective colleges is whether you had any impact through these hours. If you volunteer always at the same place, you can ask for an extra recommendation letter from your supervisor, for instance.
