Questions Re: CAP21 Pre-College Program (audition based program / NON NYU/TISCH one)

Also, my D. sent in an audition tape and there were about 60 students accepted. Michael, the head of the program last summer, told my D that there were many, many applicants and it was hard to turn away so many.

Here is a housing option for those still looking: My D and another girl in the program have just rented an apartment near campus. There may be one or two units available to rent for the month of July for anyone looking for housing and two may be able to share a unit. The website is Maison International and you can ask for Joanne Morton.

how much is the housing you are paying for, ccsmom?

We are actually renting a two bedroom as my older daughter will be there interning at a magazine the entire summer. For a studio or one-bedroom it is around $2,500 plus tax and a broker fee, so a bit expensive unless sharing! Check their website. The other option is to look in craig's list, but I will tell you I send out several inquiries and did not hear back from anyone. NYC is expensive!!! Also, we mainly looked in the Village, but there are other options if you look in nearby areas that are just a short subway ride away from campus. Good luck!!

Did anyone get into the dorms?

ccsmon I sent you a pm.

as far as getting into the dorms I was offered one but I only had 24 hours to reply and I didn't check my e-mails until the next day so I wasn't able to get it. It was all the way in Brooklyn though so I probabaly wouldnt have taken it anyways.

I read an article that said NYU will no longer be offering the CAP21 after next year for degree credit. Does anyone know if this affects the Cap 21 precollege summer program? I am talking about the audition entry program.

The CAP21 programs that are not affiliated with NYU/Tisch are indeed still offered. That includes the summer CAP21 pre-college program (non-NYU one), as well as their professional certificate programs, weekend high school programs, and so on.

The CAP21 pre-college program (audition-based one) you mention was never affiliated with NYU before and still is not and continues on.

Please be aware that NYU/Tisch still has a BFA program with MT training that has taken the place of the CAP21 studio training for degree candidates. It is New Studio on Broadway. They still offer the summer pre-college program through Tisch and the training is with New Studio on Broadway. The BFA program is by audition. The summer pre-college program is non-audition., but competitive.

PS…if you go to the CAP21.org site, you will see all the programs that CAP21 (not NYU) offers, including the pre-college program in summer.
