Hi,

I'm really interested in bs/md programs, but I feel like cost is a limiting factor if I'm reading everything correctly. I'm a Texas residents so the cheapest options would be the instate ones such as UT Pact, UT Fame, TTU, and Baylor2. My parents make ~200k, so I'm not expecting a lot of financial aid. So, I was wondering if it is even worth applying to programs such as NU, BU, Brown, PSU, UMKC because they all seem to be so expensive. For example, cost of attendance for 3 years at NU would be 195k and the cost of the med school would be around 300k, equalling 500k for the 7 years. How are people able to finance this program for 500k? Brown would be even more expensive since it's 8 years. Even with a full tuition scholarship at Miami, I would be looked at 350k, right? Are these bs/mds worth it compared to going to a large public for free and then a cheaper med school (Texas is cheap instate)?

Also, is it really true that the new mcat requirement for rice/baylor is the average score of the incoming class, which is usually like 35 or 36? Doesn't that beat the purpose of guaranteed med school acceptance because those high mcat scores are difficult and should not be considered guaranteed.

Anyone have an opinion on TTU's program? It's 8 years and cheap, but scholars have to go to TTU's med school, which isn't ranked very high. Aren't they selling themselves short because these kids have the ability to go to prestigious med schools like UTSW, Baylor if they take the tradition route.
