Questions regarding Verification worksheet for federal aid program

For "students tax form", If I had no income the past year and I did not file a income tax return, I can leave number three alone or I need to put $0 on it?
For question number 2 in both "student tax form" and "parents tax form", there are four columns. I know the a, b, and c is child dupport, workman's compension and untaxed pensions respectively but I dont know what is d,e and f. Do I need to write anything on d,e and f myself or what?
Thank you!

IS this a form from your college? If so, email the financial aid office directly.

Usually the family submits the FAFSA to the government, who then shares it with the college(s) and the school(s) ask for verification, so I am wondering if you are writing about a school form (???)

thr form I’m filling in is “2011-2012 Verification Worksheet” Then I saw a US Department of Education logo and “Federal Student Aid Programs” below the worksheet…

Were you sent this worksheet by the college? If not, don’t fill it out. If so, you have to put a number in it … if it’s 0, put 0.

I was told by my college that I was selected. Then the staff handed me the form and asked me fill it out.

In that case, make sure every line is filled in (unless it refers to student’s spouse & you aren’t married - in which case, put N/A there). Leaving it blank will cause problems, as the school will probably ask you to do it over. Just put 0 when the answer is 0. Lots of kids don’t earn any money.

D, e, and f are to be completed if there are other sources of untaxed income in addition to child support, worker’s comp, or untaxed pensions. Refer to your FAFSA, question 44. If you had to include any money here, what was it from? If it’s 0, then it’s 0. Without looking at question 44, I am thinking that might include untaxed payments to pensions and Making Work Pay tax credit. If so, and if you/your parents had either of these, they would be included as d or e or f.

thank you. What I am worrying about is that the process of verifying will take too long. The financial aid office told me that I have to pay the tuition if the payment is due. Well, I know some students are not really care about their awards but I really do. I feel so stressful if they hold my awards for checking. I hope they can finish the whole process as soon as possible so that I can get my reward sooner. Anyway, they told me that the process will take 45 days. I submitted the form yesterday, but since I am a transfer student and I haven’t go to the orientation so I don’t have the ID, they might not start processing my verification yet. I am so damn awkward…:[

So you are transferring for January start? It is true that it might take some time to complete your file, but at this time of year it should not take 45 days. Hopefully, it will be done sooner.

Mid-year transfers typically do not get grants other than Pell (if you qualify). That is because money is usually first-come, first-served & it’s gone by this time of year. Did you go to school in the fall? You will be eligible for the remainder of your Stafford loan amount for year-in-school (if all your credits don’t transfer right away, remember that it is for your classification at the new school at the time the loan offered - if more credits are posted before the end of the term & your loan eligibility increases as a result at that time, you can request an increase). You will be eligible for your semester Pell amount (if you are Pell-eligible). Other than that, you should not count on any money … unless this particular school has a really good financial aid program & they have told you that you can expect more.

P.S. They will process your file - they have an ID associated with it, even if you don’t have it yet.

oh…I am just talking about pell and the state grant, but still my school might take a long time to process it… When you said “Mid-year transfers typically do not get grants,” Are you saying the private grant only? I dont have private grant but just the pell and state grant…

P.S: I don’t know why they need 45 days to finish checking!!! sigh…

They say 45 days because they are probably ridiculously understaffed.

Did you contact the state to let them know you are switching schools?

Pell can be used anywhere, so transferring midyear is not a problem. At least in my state, students are responsible for contacting the state to let them know that they are switching schools - not sure what the rules are for your state. You should be able to transfer the state grant. What I meant is that SEOG and school grants are usually not available midyear.

Yes, I changed the school name on my online application. I dont know if I need to do anything with the previous school. I hope the financial office can finish checking before the semester start. Thank you for your reply, Kelsmom.

I hope that things work out for you. When do your classes start?
